Identifying psychiatric disorders and predicting treatment outcomes using machine learning and multimodal data

We will aim to identify psychiatric disorders (e.g., major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia) and predict their treatment outcomes using machine learning and multimodal data (e.g., structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, genetic, clinical data, cognitive data, electronic health records). Trainees will have the opportunity to have access to large datasets in mental health from Canada, US and China, and get involved in all stages of data-driven research of psychiatric disorders, from data organization, analyzing, visualization and inference. They will also have the opportunity to have training in writing papers and proposals if desired. Dr. Cao has a background of mathematics, neuroimaging, neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, and statistical and computational analyses, and will provide corresponding guidance for students from these backgrounds or those are willing to learn in these fields.
